Learning to Draw Shapes #3

Leaf and Side Face of Professor Snape (Harry Potter Fame)

Countryside Landscape

Today during the class discussion on Colombian Economy and policy, my mind wandered off to a typical countryside and I thought of drawing it.

Need to improve, definitely... but who will teach me?

Water Droplet

Learning to Draw - IV

Learning to shade and draw a liquid drop with reflection was a fun experience. The most enjoyable part was, how to shade the droplet so that it looks natural and the direction of light seem uniform.

Learning to draw shapes

Learning to Draw - II

In a cold classroom on 20th June, a professor was explaining something about the Business Transformation. The mind was wandering and a word struck... "Gem" and I thought of drawing it out.
The first thing which came to my mind was a diamond. To complement it I drew another shape of an Emerald.

My Sketches

Learning to Draw - I

During classes, the professors and the environment inspired me to take some time out of my classroom time and invest into something which would make it worthwhile. The sketched these on my notebook during some of the classes.
I would like to take this up as a hobby and improve my sketching and draw something nice.

ईदं तुभ्याम, ईदं न मम

Idam tubhyam, Idam na mama
(This is yours, this is not mine)

There was a King. He was wise and just and loved by his people. After a few years he got bored of being a King, and would get tired very fast.

To solve this problem he went to his Guru in the forest and said, "I am tired of all these problems and tensions; if I solve one problem another erupts. Every day there are new problems and new tensions. I am tired of all this ! What should I do?"

The Guru said, "If such is the case, then leave the kingdom to your son and live a life the way I live."

The King said, "My son is very young and will not be able to handle this."

The Guru said, "In that vase you give me the kingdom and I will handle it."

The King was very happy and said,"Yes! this is acceptable to me."

The Guru gave him some holy water and the King took it in his right hand and made a promise in front of the sacred fire.

The King got up and started to leave.

The Guru asked, " Where are you going?" The King said, "I am going to the palace to take some money from the treasury and I will go to a foreign land where I will do a small business and lead my life."

The Guru said, " When you have given me the kingdom, the treasury is also mine and you have no right."

The King thought for a moment and said, "That is true so now I will have to take a job somewhere else."

The Guru said, " If you have to do a job, come and work for me. I have such a big kingdom and I need somebody to run it, You have the right experience, will you do this?" The King said, "Yes !"

The Guru said, "Then go and from today run the kingdom on my behalf. Please remember that nothing is yours. You will only get a salary."

The King accepted and went back and started running the kingdom. After one month the Guru came to the palace and asked theKing, "So how are you? Have you got bored, have you got tensions? How is life with you?"

Smilingly the King said, " I am very happy. I am able to sleep well in the night. I work hard whole day, I have solved the problem and have no tensions ! I try my best and leave the worry to you! Nothing is mine. I only do my duty."

This story really puts into perspective that a man should only do his duty and leave the worrying to the almighty.

The Movie was rated by Times of India at 2.5 stars, and anybody in there right mind would not dare watch a movie of that rating...

But, I was not one of them; I dared the movie solely on encouragement from Arun* and went to watch at Drive-In Cinema with my cousin. The ride to the theatre was quite an adrenaline rush not because of the horrendous traffic we were stuck in, as if the whole nature was begging us not to go. but anyhow we reached there in time for the movie and somehow secured ourselves and my car a place to park. The theatre was a bit more crowded than expected, probably due to Sheela's Jawani #@!*

The movie was a torture for the mind and body the only respite was the chitter-chatter with friends.
Anyhow after grueling 2.5 hours finally the movie was over and we could ease out of the place with our heads held low.

Overall a very bad experience.

God's Hands

I heard this story in the movie "The pursuit of Happyness",
Once a man was drowning; a boat came by and asked him to come aboard for which he replied "god will save me.", after some time another came by and asked the man to come aboard and again he replied that god will save him.
Finally he drowned and was at the Pearly Gates.
He asked god, "Why did the god let him die and not help?" to which the god answered " I sent you two boats, why didn't you get onboard?"

God helps everyone who asks for it.
It is upto us to see his greatness and not be adamant/foolish and keep an open mind.

The Call (Chronicles of Narnia)

It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

And then that word grew louder and louder
'Til it was a battle cry

I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye

Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never
Been this way before

All you can do is try to know
Who your friends are
As you head off to the war

Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light

You'll come back
When it's over
No need to say good bye

Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and now one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

Let your memories grow stronger ans stronger
'Til they're before your eyes

You'll come back
When it's over
No need to say good bye

Failure is NO Excuse

In day to day life, we come across many instances, where we think, we are failures, we are nothing in comparison to somebody, OR somebody is so great; all the Blah! Blah! stuff. We treat ourselves as if we are condemned, we are worthless, and this world is better without us.
Such thoughts cloud-up our minds, our thinking is restricted and we can't help ourselves get out of these choking thoughts...
In such times, all we need to think is...

Failure is no excuse, failure is no end
but a beginning to a gratifying morrow,
but a fact as it should be, failure is a fact.

Facts do no harm, facts do no good,
but facts do help understand the error.

Error as everybody commits, today or the other,
no one in this world, has ever leaved without one.

So wakeup, and be on heels,
to identify and rectify,
the error, as it should be,
So using the fact not to loose morrow,
So using the fact not to fail
So using the failure to succeed morrow,

But! morrow is not in my hand,
so work today, to enjoy morrow,
But don't forget,
if you had failed hitherto,
know that it was yore,
today is yours,
use it, to forget yore and build future,
and Remember,

Failure is past,
hard work is present to make
comforting future.

Some of the things I learned in life...

Here are some of the things I learned in life,

That no matter how good a person is, sometimes they can hurt you...
and because of this we must forgive.

It takes years to build trust & only seconds to destroy it...

we dont have to change friends if we understand that friends change...
the circumstances and the environment influence our lives, but we are the ones who are
responsible for ourselves...

that you have to control your acts, or the will control you...
that patience requires much practice...
that there are people who love us, but simply dont know how to show it...
that sometimes the person you think will hurt you and make you fall...
is instead one of the few who will help you get up.
... you should never tell a child that dreams are fake, it would be a tragedy if they knew.
Its not always enough to be forgiven by someone... in most cases you have to forgive yourself first...

...that no matter in how many pieces your heart is broken..the world doesnt stop to fix it.

.. maybe the God wants us to meet all the wrong people first before meeting the right one... so when
we finally meet the right one we are grateful for that gift.

.. When the door of happiness closes, another opens...but often we look so long at the closed one..
we dont see what was open for us.

The best kind of friend is the kind in which you can sit on a porch and walk, without saying a word, &
when you leave it feels like it was the best conversation you ever had.

Its true we dont know what we have until we find it...but its also true, we dont know what we've been missing util it arrives.

It only takes a minute to offend someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone... but,
it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Dont look for appearances, they can be deceiving,
Dont go for wealthm because even that can fade.
find someone who makes you smile, because it only takes a smile to make a fay better.
find what makes your heart smile.

there are moments in life when you miss someone so much... that you can take them out of your dream and hug them for real.

Dream what you want, go wherever you want to go..because you have only one life... & one chance to do the things you want to do.

the happiest people do not necessarily have the best of everything...they just make the best of everything that comes their way.

the best future is based on a forgotten past... you cant go on well in life until you let go of your past failures & heartaches.

when you were born you were crying... and everyone around you smiled...
live your life so that when you die, you're the one that is smiling... and everyone around you is crying.

Everyday is a celebration

The westerners feel, we waste too much time celebrating this festival or the other, as opposed to their 3 per year, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. On face-value the accusation seems totally justified. But one feels totally different underneath the surface.
India, the melting pot of so many civilisations, cultures and faiths, spiritual leader of the world, through the wisdom acquired over an extended period of time, thinks and feels different. In India we know the shortness of human life and achievements. We feel, there is nothing a man can do which shall be remembered for ever, there are infinite incarnations to achieve the goal of salvation that one life cannot achieve. So, then what to do. The simple answer is celebrate every second of life, like its a gift. Give it different names, eat different types of food, wear different clothing, do everything that life has to offer and be content.

That is the great philosophy of India.
